I found that there isn’t too much 3d globe resources. Therefore, I am here to release a new one.
Again, this is a comparison between Papever Vision 3D and Kit 3D. This post is actually a minor modification of my previous article Image Rotating Cube. I suppose the Flash and Silverlight versions will look like more or less the same as in the last one. However, out of my expectation, Kit3D engine seems not generating a textured mapped sphere very well.
As you can see in Silverlight version, I applied a very low segment value to the globe in order to boost the running speed. And you can see the globe is not spinning very smoothly.
The performance problem may be caused by the mesh generating algorithm. If anyone has a better solution to make the globe rotates smoothly, please feel free to share with me.
For you reference, the image map used inside the sample is downloaded from MacDaddy-World.
Comparison
Flash implementation: 30 minutes (Implemented First)
Silverlight implementation: 30 minutes
Source codes
Spinning Globe [Flash 9, AS3] (3.7 MiB, 5,754 hits)
Spinning Globe [Silverlight 2, C#] (3.3 MiB, 3,765 hits)

Now Flash10 have built-in 3D engine.

And so what?
May be in Silverlight there isn’t native 3D Engine, but even not native Kit3D works fantastic in Silverlight.
In this example, 3D Globe in Flash works worse, than in Silverlight.

Oleg, how can you look at these samples and say that the Flash example “works worse” ? It rotates without lag, the number of sphere segments is far higher than the Silverlight example resulting in a higher quality sphere. Also, to clarify, there is not built-in 3D library in Flash. There are simply some API hooks that let Papervision perform better. Kit 3D still has a long way to go.

great, im looking forward to silverlight 3

Could anyone please explain why silverlight is getting any votes at all. Is it the code? .. Thanks

If it were to demonstrate Silverlight, that was suisidal!! Though I liked to work with silverlight, that glob was so unreal!! At least I haven’t seen a glob with corners stcking out! I am MS consultant with an MCAD!! But, I have to be honest!

To answer Nick’s question - why is SL getting any votes at all?
It’s a clever trap to identify people who will vote for SL no matter what, so they can be banned from future voting. And maybe removed from results retroactively too.
At least, that’s how I would do it. :)

Papervision3D is an excellent 3D Library for AS3! Not only will it make 3D scenes quick it is fast and you can add some rediculiously cool special effects thanks to the work of Andy Zupko. Try doing something like this in Silverlight http://taggalaxy.de/ not going to happen for awhile their needs to be better cleaner solutions in Silverlight 3D I played with Kit3d and decided it just wasn’t a viable solution for me. They need to simplify there api and maybe it shouldn’t be written in JavaScript just an idea. Silverlight is a great product but they need some cool opensource libraries to help it along its way.

Could I please have another spinning Globe, this time colourtful?
Thank you very much

When can I view the next one please?

Flash works better but somethink i happend when silverlight i turn on , play only flash and see .. for me flash is faster

flash is always good and better than silverlight.
now it supports 3d too. its getting better day by day.

Flash is faster, but if you start both Silverlight take much CPU so lock Flash. I think that the problem is on Silverlight, not on Flash.

I love how silverlight has a 16 sided globe!

LOL, that silverlight globe looks totally retarded, Silverlight surely has some things to refactor, but still… it’s so funny seeing you goofballs whine about what is better… WHATEVER!! I’ll use what suits the situation the best, and it’s not always flash, thats for sure.

Use this for the Silverlight object and it should be faster:
At default GPU support in Silverlight is disabled.
But i think this param is only in Silverlight 3 available.

Hmm, HTML-Tags not working here.
enableGPUAcceleration = true

Article distribution is a fundamental elemtent of your overall article marketing campaign. Without a right strategy, writing articles is simply a waste of time, If your article marketing campaign consists in simply submitting an article or two each week, the results will be probably very poor, It needs way more than a couple of articles submissions a week to produce results. In fact, those who are successful are definitely submitting at least 5 to 10 articles daily. but this can be very time consuming, they acquire the results keep them motivated to keep on, that’s why you should put some money in automation softwares. Article spinner and submitter softwares are the best ones you can acquire that are going to greatly help you leverage your article marketing campaigns.
