Dec 07
Another RIA technology JavaFx was officially launched on 04 Dec 2008.
More information can be found on http://www.javafx.com/
From what I see from the demos and samples, I believe it will be a big competitor for Flash and Silverlight.
JavaFx on ShineDraw?
One of the developer from Sun Microsystems approached me and asked if I am interested to study about JavaFx.
Well, my answer is positive. It will be quite interesting if additional technology can be added to my samples.
Anyway, let me study JavaFx a bit more before I can come up with any plan.

I don’t think JavaFX will be a great rival. Frankly, I even doubt that it will appeal to Java developers who still have to learn some new language used by JavaFX.
I know my opinion is based on the beta version which I happened to try this Spring at Sun TechDays, I wasn’t impressed at all, it was far from being finished, while when playing with Silverlight Beta 1.1 I really enjoyed a lot of things.

I thought I read it uses a “scripting language” and not full Java?
I don’t think it will be a big competitor.

I really like the message box I got when trying the demo (very unfriendly indeed):
—————————
Windows Internet Explorer
—————————
The current version of Java on this system (0 - unknown) does not support JavaFX.
You will now be redirected to a Java update site to get the latest version.

OK

However, please, if you can provide some samples that will showcase the technology from all three major players, please do so. Everyone benefits from the exchange and hopefully you will get some reward for your efforts.

JavaFx script, as a new scripting language for building UI, is an obvious weakness in JavaFx.
Besides, there are no official design tools, something like Adobe CS or MS Expression, to support it yet. Current Audio/Video codecs are also not main stream.
I think this product will not have any good future.

Seems that people don’t have much confidence on this new technology.
Anyway, I will try to study it first and post a review later on.

I just started learning JavaFx 2 days ago, I find it to be a very intuitive language to write UI. It makes UI coding actually enjoyable. It may not be comparable to Flex right now, especially on the designer tool aspect, but certainly a big jump from the old way of writing java UI in Swing. Actually I find JavaFx to be a really wonderful language in its own right.

I like your unbiassed attitude to all RIA competitors.
I start study RIA technology not long ago,
therefore I have not biased opinion.

Effective test design tools and methods are not given nearly enough attention by most testers, regardless of which side of the "manual v. ,
